A New Folk Song Is Here: “Songbird” + A Space for Daydreamers

Songbird Has Landed (A Little Early) 💫

There’s something special about sharing a song before it officially takes flight… and today, I get to do exactly that.

Songbird, my new indie folk song, has landed early inside my VIP Bandcamp Community. This free-spirited acoustic track will officially release on May 15th 🎉but for now, my VIP listeners get first access.

If you’re part of my VIP Bandcamp community, it should be in your collections. And if you’re not, this is your invitation to join the nest and experience my music before anyone else. Inside, you’ll find early releases, my complete catalog of relaxing acoustic songs, and a quiet little corner away from the noise.

Here is a link to my Bandcamp community to learn more and even if you are not a a member you can take a sneak peak at the cover art and read more about the story behind the song. https://melissadsings.bandcamp.com/vip-songbird

Songbird is really about celebrating individuality, letting yourself be free, and embracing your quirky. It’s perfect for anyone who loves gentle, calming music or wants a moment of reflection in their day.

My Daydreaming Truth

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately…

I used to get in trouble for daydreaming as a kid.

Now I see it completely differently. Those wandering thoughts? They weren’t a flaw. They were a gift, imagination, creativity, and a soft place to land.

It’s this gift of daydreaming that helps me write folk songs inspired by nature, feelings, and life’s little moments. And it’s a big reason why Songbird exists.

That reflection inspired a small (but meaningful) change:

My Facebook group now has a new name: Melissa D’s Daydreamers

Nothing else is changing, just the name. It’s still a gentle space for:

Highly sensitive souls

Introverts

Neuro-spicy folks

Big dreamers and big feelers

Creative spirits who love music and stories

A place where you can show up as you are, share at your own pace, and take a break from the noise.

And I guarrrranteeee (said in my best cheesy 70s door-to-door salesman voice 😄)… it’s one of the most drama-free corners of the internet.

Here is the link to my Facebook group ⬇️-  Hope to see you there soon! https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1LP7pURTAH/

Thanks for spending a little time here with me. I hope this season is bringing you moments of calm, creativity, and maybe even a little daydreaming of your own.

All the best from the nest,
💜
Melissa D

Happy Loveuary🙃 a few music updates from me

Happy February or as the Hallmark Channel likes to call it, “Loveuary” 🙃
I love watching those movies this time of year. I know they’re sappy, but I just can’t help myself. I’ve always been a little sappy, and I’m finally learning to embrace it 😉 I’ve realized that the predictability and simplicity of those movies bring me a lot of comfort and peace and frankly, I’ll take that where I can get it.

So speaking of Loveuary and romance…my song “Love of my Life” was featured on Women of Substance Radio Valentine's Day Podcast on Monday, February 9th (episode #1826).  You can catch it on demand 24/7 at www.wosradio.com and cozy up with my tune along with lots of other sweet tunes this Valentine’s week. 🎧♥️

A quick Songbird Song update:
Colin worked his mastering magic on the track, and it’s officially ready to make its debut this spring. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an exact release date.

I released a video recently on YouTube. It's an acoustic performance of an original song called “Itty-Bitty, Pretty Little Songs.  It's a short and sweet blues number, it celebrates the pure and unapologetic joy of creativity no matter what anyone else says. You can watch that below ⬇️

In case you missed my big update on social media recently, I’ll no longer be sharing new releases on Spotify, and I’ve trimmed my catalog there as well. Going forward, new music will live on Bandcamp (my main home), Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon, Pandora, and YouTube Music.

This was a really difficult decision, but I can no longer stay active on a platform that doesn’t align with my values. There are a lot of reasons behind this (how much time have you got ;-) ) but too many to get into in this blog.(I went deeper into this in an email that I sent out last week to my core supporters)

I will say that one of the reasons is audio quality, and as an artist, that matters to me. My music simply sounds better on other platforms.

If you’re a Spotify user, I still love you and I’m keeping some songs up there for you to enjoy. There just won’t be anything new. I need to do what feels right for me right now. Thank you for understanding.

On a lighter note, my Bandcamp page recently got a little makeover💄Since it’s my musical home base, I wanted it looking all polished and shiny😉 If you’d like to check it out, you can visit here, and I’d love to know what you think.

Thanks for landing here with me for a bit. I hope 2026 has been treating you kindly so far. There’s been a lot of chaos and cold lately (literally and figuratively), and I hope you’re still able to find some pockets of peace, hope, and joy even when it feels hard.

All the best from the nest,
💜
Melissa D

A Little Holiday Update 🎄

As the year winds down, I wanted to share a quick holiday hello and a few music updates.

I’m excited to share that my song “Songbird” is continuing to take shape. The backing vocals were added recently, and the harmonies sound rich, fat and magical. I can't wait for y'all to hear it!  I’m planning a spring release, with an earlier listen available on Bandcamp for my VIP Songbird supporters.

If you’re in the mood for holiday music, I also have a Christmas album available on Bandcamp. You can find that ➡️here

The album is also streaming on YouTube as a playlist, along with a few additional holiday performances. To visit the playlist you can go to my Frequency Folk my channel here ➡️Christmas Playlist

This time of year is naturally a quieter season for me. With shorter days and less light, I’ve been stepping back from live events and allowing space for rest and renewal. I’m currently working on ideas for 2026 and looking ahead with intention.

As we move through the holiday season and toward the return of the light, I’m grateful for everyone who listens, shares, and supports my music.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a gentle close to the year.
See you on the other side of the season.

💜Melissa D

🎃A Halloween Treat for You Plus Updates

Happy Halloween!🎃
Hope you have something fun (or cozy) planned for today.

I’ve got lots of exciting news to share!

First, I received a grant from the Vermont Arts Council to support my upcoming studio recording of my song Songbird. This project is now fully funded! Thanks to recent event income and your generous tips (thank you!), I’ll also be able to rehire my PR team, the same dynamite folks who helped with my last release.

The cover art is being made as I type this.  I am working with Jason Bemis, an incredible artist.  He sent me some preliminary sketches yesterday and oh my!! its looking delightful!!

Next up...my brand new video just dropped at 5am this morning (thank God for automated uploads..it wasn't me up at 5am doing it😅).

Just in time for Halloween, it’s my cover of “Ghost in This House” by Alison Krauss, now live on YouTube and Facebook. I recorded it using my new Shure MV4 mic and laptop setup, and I’m so happy with the improved sound quality compared to using my phone.

🎸 Local Corner

Saturday, Nov 8th:
I’ll be back at the Middlebury Farmers Market, playing a couple of morning sets starting at 10am. If you’re in the area, come say hi! They’ve got great local food and Vermont-made goodies.

Thanks so much for being here.  Your support is the fuel that keeps me going.

Music, mac & cheese, and radical joy 🎶💜

How’s your fall going so far? 🍂 I’m still in denial that summer is ending… lol.

I’ve got some exciting news to share: this November(Nov 6th) I’ll be heading back into the studio to record my song Songbird.  This tune is like the music equivalent of homemade mac and cheese; It fills you up and is warm, comforting and peaceful. I am feeling called to share something gentle and joyful as an act of radical joy in the midst of all the noise and chaos that I am seeing in the world right now.

Some of you may remember, I had the wonderful opportunity of performing Songbird last fall at Norman Rockwell’s studio in Arlington, Vermont. If you missed it, you can watch the performance (and hear the story behind the song) [here].

I’ve also applied for a grant through the Vermont Arts Council to help bring Songbird to life. If it comes through, any contributions from supporters will go toward promoting the release. Either way, every dollar I make from music goes right back into creating and sharing more music.

If you’d like to support the recording (totally optional!), you can drop something in the tip jar here:

🎶 Saturday, Oct 11th: I’m playing a morning set at the Middlebury Farmers Market. Music starts at 10am; come say hi if you're in the area.

🎉Special shout out to everyone who attended my shows over the summer!  We all had so much fun and I felt the love and support and my heart is still full💜

🎵 House Concerts: I’m opening my calendar for November and December. If you’re in New England or New York, let’s chat about bringing a show to your living room. (Not local? A cozy Zoom concert is always an option!) You can learn more about house concerts [here].

Thanks for being here. Your support whether it’s showing up, listening, sharing, or tipping it all helps and warms my heart and fuels me to keep going.

From Setbacks to Studio Magic – An Exciting Update About My New Song

I wanted to share an update on the studio recording of my song Will I Be Bored in Heaven.

My original producer had to step down unexpectedly, which caused some delays. But in the end, it worked out for the best, I found a new producer who’s not only a better fit but also closer to home. Now, I’m back on track and thrilled with the progress we’re making!

After tons of research, recommendations from trusted colleagues, and deep dives into his work, I knew Colin McCaffrey was the right choice. He’s not only an incredible producer but also a talented singer-songwriter. You can check out his bio here.

Even with just a few emails and one phone call, we’ve already made amazing progress. Colin came up with a killer bassline that completely transformed the song. He captured its fun, lighthearted energy and gave it a groove that feels like something you'd hear on a tropical vacation. The moment I heard it, I thought, OMG!! That’s exactly the vibe I was looking for!

Next up, I’ll be recording my vocals this week—Feb 11th at 11 AM! (Angel numbers! ✨) The VIP release (for my amazing supporters who helped fund this project) is set for March 15, and the public release will be on May 16.

On the promo side, I’ve applied for a grant to help with marketing and teamed up with an awesome PR team recommended by a trusted colleague who are not only super talented but also down-to-earth and affordable.

The cover art is officially done! It was created by a very gifted artist friend of mine from the UK, and I’m toying with the idea of making some t-shirts with the design. Let me know if that’s something you’d be into!

If you’d still like to hop aboard my scrappy indie ship and help bring this song to life, it’s not too late! As a thank-you, supporters will receive the song on March 16th—two months before the general public—and get their name in the credits. You can contribute via PayPal here: paypal.com/paypalme/melissadlove. Every little bit helps, and I’m so grateful for your support.

Thank you for believing in what I do!

💜 All the best,
Melissa D

Hanging out with Norman Rockwell 🎨

I got to perform one of my original songs at Rockwell's Retreat in Arlington, VT at Norman Rockwell's studio where he painted his most cherished works of art. I partnered up with another creator named Patricia. She has a YouTube Channel called Traveling For History.  She filmed my performance for her show.  The song I sang was inspired by one of Rockwell's children's books and I talk about that at the beginning of the video.

Kevin, the owner of this magnificent place, hosted Patricia and I for the afternoon and gave us a detailed tour which covered more about Rockwell and his life, particularly when he lived in Vermont. This tour was filmed by Patricia as well.  It's worth checking out her channel for those videos and others as well.  She covers some very interesting hysterical, ahem, I mean historical places lol. (Dad joke, couldn't resist 😉)

To watch my live performance you can visit here.

It felt incredible to be surrounded by Norman's creative and powerful energy(which we all have inside of us as well, I have to remind myself of this often) while I was singing this song.

Thank you for supporting me and my music.  It means so much to have you on this journey with me.

💜All the best,
Melissa D
